100 Years of architectural Drawing
Architectural historian and former architectural drawings curator of RIBA Neil Bingham, has put together a collection of 300 of the best architectural drawings from the last century. Each page in this beautiful book contains a colour reproduction of the work with information about the architect and a short description of the story behind that particular drawing. The result is a fascinating selection of different drawing styles and subjects. One of my favorites is Hassan Fathy’s drawing of his proposed scheme for a new village on the west bank of the River Nile at Luxor in 1948, where he complements his floor plans with elements of Pharonic symbolism.
We found out that Neil was coming to the RIBA library to do research and managed to persuade him to come down to see us and sign copies of his book. We like this book so much that we decided to suggest it for this year’s Christmas list.
